British Academy - 6th Form Northern Cyprus School

The Doğa College British Academy , past, present and future!!!!

Since the first brick was laid and the first student entered the building, The Doğa College British Academy has never looked back or shied away from the responsibility of educating children to the very highest levels. We take the duty of care as a group, providing a caring and secure environment for all pupils to learn within, from the private junior courtyard to the gated entrance, everyone is here to help. The resources offered to all students are second to none and are regularly updated in keeping with many other international establishments.

As all our students and parents alike will testify, the teaching at The Doğa College British Academyis designed to send our pupils out in to the world with a broad rounded education to ensure they can adapt to all aspects of what life will through at them.

With this in mind we have invested heavily in providing the following resources to guarantee their future.

  • Fully Qualified and experienced Staff – it was once stated that a school is only as good as its’ teachers. How true is that!? The Doğa College British Academy has invested heavily in seeking the best teachers and educators available. The staff at school are all dedicated professionals who take education very seriously and who above all care for their students. All staff are fully qualified in their specialist areas with English curriculum teachers having recognised teaching degrees from the UK or equivalent ensuring the continuity of teaching throughout the world.

  • 3x high tech ICT suites with projectors – in this IT based environment we live in, the computer world is fundamental within learning for bothprimary and secondary children. Every aspect of life is affected by computers and therefore their introduction at an early stage is crucial. All 3 of our computer suites isdesigned to maximise their use, not only for ICT lessons but also for research intotopic work forprojects. Each student has the use of their own pc, no need for sharing, thereby meaning they have more time to understand and work.

  • Well equipped Food Tech Room – continuing the theme of all round education, students from primary and secondaryschool are actively encouraged to learn the art of cooking, whether it be biscuits for ‘Mothers Day’ or a full 3 course meal, the students excel at it all. As part of our continuing programme the IGCSE examination course is available for budding chef’s who will get theopportunity to learn about origins of nutritional and healthy cuisine.

  • Well equipped Science Lab – all science options are available within our school and the students from KS2 and secondary department have science lessons held in a fully equipped science laboratory. The very essence of science is to explore and understand the various parts of life and how it all fits together in the greater schemes of their everyday existence. The science modules are offered as combined or pure science in core subject areas and therefore with the right training the students get to experiment and discuss the numerous issues arising from their results.

  • Common Room (Secondary Dept only)– as secondary students mature, the need for a quietand relaxing area for recreation is crucial and therefore the common room is fully equipped with a pool table, table football, air hockey and comfortable sofas. This privilege is only available to students who behave themselves!!

  • Well equipped Art room – the Arts is openly encouraged within school to enable studentsto express themselves in what ever form they prefer. The light, open and airy room allows students to explore many different forms of art and under the guidance of their teacher they are given the confidence to discover the many areas of the art world whether it be sculpting or textile design – the options are endless!

  • Large fenced Astroturf area – this was designed to encompass a wide range of recreational sports ranging from basketball, tennis, football and hockey. The coaching follows the British National Curriculum and therefore includes a wide range of fitness regimes and aerobic exercise programmes. The school positively encourages a range of after school activities with football, rugby, hockey featuring heavily.

  • Large Assembly Hall - one of the many areas our school excels at is the performances put on by the students themselves. To help students learn to grow in confidence we encourage the children to take to the stage in small family orientated shows whether it be for a specific celebration i.e. Tree week, etc or more grand performances like our annual nativity play, the hall is ideal. Family involvements in these shows are essential and we are delighted to make the use of parental expertise for costume and scenery design.

  • On site kitchen – in this day and age of healthy and nutritional school meals, our kitchen staff work together with a dietician to create on a daily basis a freshly prepared meal with all the food prepared on the premises. These delicious meals are all served in our large refectory, with the younger students actively cared for by teaching staff and senior students, thus maintaining the caring and family environment throughout the school.

  • Safe soft play central courtyard - specifically designed for our Early Year’s and KS1 students, this secure and enclosed area was donated by a group of local companies who have all pledged their support to the school. The Doğa College British Academy students are so lucky as these facilities are second to none and the envy of many visiting students. The Early Years and KS1 pupils are supervised during their play times by teachers and parents ensuring their safety and protection at all times.

  • School buses - ( we have 5 buses, all owned by the school which are all serviced, with safety checks, fire precautions carried out by school. All our experienced drivers attend health & safety courses each year). The learning experience we believe should not be restricted to classroom only, therefore we actively encourage our teachers to make use of the buses and take the students out on excursions to emphasis the teaching within the school. The best example for the younger students is to learn about castles whilst sitting in one of the many impressive bastions in this region. Transportation to and from school is available for all students from designated collection/drop off points.

  • All classrooms fully air-conditioned – in this delightful climate we live in, it is essential to maximise the learning within the classrooms therefore all rooms are set for the climatic changes e.g. cooled in summer and heated in winter. This is deemed a luxury by some educational establishments but to us we believe this is a fundamental necessity to ensure students learn in a comfortable environment.

  • Future planning The Doğa College British Academy has always invested time and money in looking forward and not back, as a result to ensure future development, the school acquired a substantial amount of land adjacent to the school for future development. The use of this land is still to be decided but ideas floated so far include sixth form college, self contained Early Years department, new administration block or sports arena – watch this space.

  • Fees At the very outset of The Doğa College British Academy, the Directors made a fundamental decision to ensure the future of our school. Unlike many educational establishments the company that owns the school, Crest Education Ltd, was set up as a non-profit making organisation, thus guaranteeing all monies that come in to school remain in school. However, the company went one step further though, by acquiring all the land and then constructing all the buildings on site all with out finance or any loan, making this the most financially secure school on the island.
