A Brief History:
The Doğa College British Academy, now an established centre of educational excellence, was the brain child of Mark and Hayran Unwin, the Directors of The British Academy. When Mark and Hayran came to Northern Cyprus in 1999 their priority was to enrol their children in a school that would give them the same level of education as schools in the UK. Initially they sent their children to a small school on the island. However the school closed down due to lack of support and left them with a problem – suitable education for their children. A decision had to be made about their children's education, locate another suitable school or start one of their own!
Sunny Lane School is Born
The decision they came to was to build a school of their own, an incredible new challenge. Initially they rented a house and within a short time had 12 pupils on role. The school went from strength to strength and because of the increasing demand for school places they then decided to develop the school further. The family owned land at Alsançak, which was ideally situated between the low mountains and the coastal road. Plans were drawn up for the building of a Primary School and with support from local businesses Sunny Lane School opened its doors to 20 students in September 2002 As the school has developed and school numbers have increased, new land has been acquired and in 2005 the Secondary School was opened. The school now has 250 students on role and numbers are increasing every year.
