General Information

Our Educational Statement

  • To be a school for Early Years to IGCSE age groups, for both English-speaking students and those for whom English is their second language.

  • To be a school whose curriculum is the English National Curriculum and whose systems of education reflect the best of the English independent school system.

  • To be a school that is proud to educate within the culture of the TRNC.

  • To be a school whose members are part of a caring community, preparing in all respects for their adult lives to follow.

  • Communication

Our school is an extended family and all members of this community benefit from frequent and clear communication.  Pupils, Teachers and Parents need to be constantly in touch with one another. If, as a parent, you are ever unsure of a piece of information, need to ask a question or simply to discuss your child with a teacher, then you should contact us at once.  This can be done best through the School Office, where they can arrange a speedy appointment with whoever you need to see, or directly answer your queries for you.  Your Class Teacher or Year Tutor is the best person to speak to initially about educational matters, but you can also communicate through the Homework Diary and attend Parents' Meetings and Evenings whenever they occur. We will also communicate with you directly, or through the Homework Diary, or through letters that will come home with your child. Let's always keep talking.

    Management Structure

Our school is owned by an educational company, itself owned in turn by the country's most successful Estate Agency.  The Directors of both these organisations leave the running of The Doğa College British Academy to its professional Management Team and the Accounts Office deals with finances.

    School Hours

All students must arrive to start school by 8.30am, at which time they should be in their Classroom or Tutor Room. The children leave school at 4pm. There is a Flag Ceremony at the start and end of every week or school session.  School ends 30 minutes early on a Friday afternoon.

    School Buses

Please refer to the fee information letter.

    Rights Rules

We believe that we can all be expected to behave as caring members of a civilised community and thus, with a few specific exceptions, do not need rules listed, since they should be part of the accepted behaviour of every member of our community. Every member of our school has the right to feel safe, secure, equally valued and protectedand has the responsibility to treat others with respect, while rejecting language or behaviour that is offensive.  The Doğa College British Academy welcomes difference and diversity amongst its members and considers any discrimination unacceptable.

Specifically not allowed in our school: BULLYING - SMOKING – ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES – ALCOHOL – SWEARING – CHEWING GUM – VANDALISIM

    The House System

Every child joining the school is allocated to one of our four "Houses", which are teams competing for merit marks in all aspects of school life, including sporting competition.  At the end of the school year, the winning team members are treated to a free day out of school, often to a beach, where they can enjoy a day by the sea with lunch and all facilities provided.

    Absence From School

Just as in the UK, The Doğa College British Academy does not condone unauthorised absence from school. We have very adequate holidays of 15 or 16 weeks in a year and no other holidays should be taken outside these periods.  The Ministry of Education also regards such absences as unauthorised and can insist that a student retakes a Year if such absences are more than very occasional.  Authorised absence is for medical reasons, accompanied by a Doctor's Note for longer absence or a Parental Note for shorter absence.  Any other absence must be with the written permission of the School.

    Health Safety

Our school has a Health and Safety Officer and Risk Assessment for aspects of Health and Safety takes place regularly and on a "need" basis also. Fire and similar Risks are very much at the forefront of our policy. The school is equipped with Fire Escapes where appropriate, fire alarms, instructions on evacuation in every room and holds regular fire and emergency exit drills.

FIRST AID is another area for awareness.  While we have several trained First Aiders in both Primary and Secondary Departments, their prime responsibility is to deal with major medical problems or injuries. Parents are responsible for administering medicines and we prefer not to take this responsibility, but will do so with a specific parental letter (please see the School Office). Minor scrapes and bruises will be checked and if you wish us to put on the occasional plaster we must be told of any allergies or medical problem your child may have.

RISK ASSESSMENTS both of the school premises and for trips out of school, are carried out and, in the case of out of school trips, very specific care is taken in the preparation.
